City of Grants Pass, Oregon

Grants Pass Oregon is just 55 miles north of the California / Oregon border and the second largest city in Southern Oregon. It's nestled against the northern flank of the Siskiyou Mountains and along the banks of the Rouge River, one of the west's wild rivers. Grants Pass is located along Interstate 5, making for easy transportation in the area.

Situated in what is known as the "sun belt" of Southern Oregon, Grants Pass has mild, but varied weather.

Grants Pass sometimes has a small amount of snow in the winter. Its proximity to the Cascades, however, provides ample opportunity for snow sports, including jet skis, cross country skiing with, world class down hill skiing not far away.

In late spring, summer and early fall, the area is ideal for outdoor sports like golf, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, river rafting, jet skiing and the like.

The history of Grants Pass dates back to the 1800s. Gold was discovered nearby in 1852 which caused a mini-gold rush. Even though the gold ran out quickly, many people decided to stay in the area.

In 1883, the Southern Pacific Railroad established a terminus in Grants Pass, on what is now 6th street, making it the logical place for people in Southern Oregon to use for shipping and travel. It also allowed more people to come from the east.

The following year, a ferry opened to cross the Rouge River and by 1885, a newspaper had been established. The same year, Grants Pass was incorporated as a city; it became the county seat of Josephine County in 1886, the same year the first bridge across the Rogue River was built. Today, Grants Pass retains much of the look and feel of its historic roots, while being a thoroughly modern city.

Homes in Grants Pass range from quaint restored cottages dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s to magnificent custom homes on large acreages that have room for horses, or even small commercial organic gardens. Some parcels have access to the Rogue River, while others have outstanding views of the valley. There is also a good selection of modern homes in subdivisions, as well as condominiums.

Commercial property ranges from lots zoned for commercial close to town use to businesses for sale, some with the land. Grants Pass has a business friendly environment with solid plans for both downtown development and redevelopment, and plans for light industrial uses outside the city.

Land available in Grants Pass includes lots suitable for building near town, small estate sized acreages ready for your custom home, to larger parcels ready for development into subdivisions, recreational uses, and farming.
